Every year, the Annual Cup Match Classic brings Bermuda together in a celebration unlike any other. Families reunite, lifelong traditions continue, and visitors experience the island at its most vibrant. While the host venue alternates annually between Somerset Cricket Club and St. George’s Cricket Club, one thing remains constant—the thousands of journeys that bring people together to celebrate Bermuda’s national holiday.

For generations, Bermuda’s licensed taxi industry has played an important role in those journeys, helping residents and visitors travel safely, comfortably and reliably throughout the Cup Match holiday. Whether welcoming visitors at the airport, transporting families to the match or sharing local knowledge along the way, Bermuda’s Taxi Ambassadors have long been part of the Cup Match experience.

Building on that tradition, the Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association (BTOA) is pleased to announce that, through an official partnership with Somerset Cricket Club, Journi has been appointed the Official Transport Provider for the 2026 Annual Cup Match Classic, taking place on 30 and 31 July 2026.

Developed by BTOA to support Bermuda’s licensed taxi industry, Journi combines professional dispatch services with modern booking technology to make travelling easier for residents, visitors and taxi operators alike. Throughout this year’s Classic, Journi will provide coordinated transportation support both on-site and across the island, helping ensure getting to and from Cup Match is as enjoyable as the event itself.

A Better Way to Travel to Cup Match

This year’s partnership is about more than providing transportation, it is about creating a better event experience from the moment people begin their journey to the moment they arrive home.

Whether you’re travelling from another parish, welcoming overseas family, or visiting Bermuda for the first time, Journi has been integrated into the event’s transportation planning to help make getting to and from Somerset Cricket Club more convenient, organised and accessible.

Throughout both days of the Annual Cup Match Classic, Journi will provide dedicated dispatch services supported by a team working behind the scenes to help connect passengers with licensed taxi operators across the island. Customers can book a taxi in advance, request a ride when they’re ready to leave, or receive assistance from the Journi team if they need help arranging transportation.

By combining modern dispatch technology with Bermuda’s experienced taxi industry, the partnership helps improve the way transportation is coordinated during one of the busiest weekends of the year, allowing drivers to focus on delivering great service while passengers enjoy a smoother travel experience.

Arriving at Somerset Cricket Club

To support the movement of passengers throughout the event, Journi will operate an official Booking & Transportation Desk located near the main Cricket Lane entrance at Somerset Cricket Club. Staffed throughout both days of the Classic, the desk will provide in-person assistance for customers requiring transportation support, booking assistance or general travel information.

Passengers who book through the Journi app will also benefit from a designated pick-up and drop-off location, making it easier to locate their assigned taxi and helping reduce unnecessary delays when leaving the grounds. Clear collection points will improve the customer experience while allowing drivers to complete pick-ups safely and efficiently.

As part of the event’s transportation plan, all Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), including taxis, minibuses and other licensed passenger vehicles, will use designated loading and unloading areas established for the event.

Keeping PSV activity within these dedicated zones will help reduce congestion around the main entrance, improve traffic flow and create a safer environment for pedestrians entering and leaving the venue. Whether booking through the Journi app, speaking with the on-site team or travelling by taxi in the traditional way, passengers can expect a coordinated transportation service designed to make arriving at and departing from Somerset Cricket Club as straightforward as possible.

Fair Fares. Better Value.

One of the advantages of travelling with Journi is the confidence of knowing that taxi fares remain consistent throughout the Cup Match holiday. Journi does not apply surge pricing or increase fares during periods of high demand. Every journey is charged using Bermuda’s Government-regulated taxi fare structure, providing transparent and predictable pricing for residents and visitors alike.

To celebrate its appointment as the Official Transport Provider, Journi will also waive its platform service fee on each customer’s first completed booking on both days of the 2026 Annual Cup Match Classic. It’s a simple way of saying thank you while helping more people experience the convenience of digital taxi booking during Bermuda’s biggest annual celebration.

Customers can book and pay securely through the Journi app using their saved debit or credit card, making it easy to enjoy a cashless journey from start to finish. For passengers who prefer to hail a taxi in the traditional way, participating drivers can also accept secure card payments using Journi’s Street Hail Meter, giving customers the flexibility to pay electronically even without making a booking through the app.

Whether you’re travelling to the match, returning home after the day’s play or exploring the island over the holiday weekend, Journi offers a simple, reliable and convenient way to travel with Bermuda’s licensed taxi industry.

Driven by Bermuda's Taxi Ambassadors

While technology helps connect passengers with a taxi, it is the driver behind the wheel who defines the journey.

Journi connects customers with Bermuda’s licensed Public Service Vehicle operators—professional drivers who serve residents and visitors every day with local knowledge, experience and a commitment to customer service. Many drivers using the platform are members of the Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association, while others have completed recognised tourism, hospitality or customer service training that reflects Bermuda’s reputation as a world-class destination.

For many visitors, a taxi ride is more than transportation. It is often their first conversation after arriving in Bermuda and one of the last before they leave. Along the way, drivers recommend restaurants, share stories about the island, point out places of interest and help visitors experience Bermuda through the eyes of someone who knows it best.

That tradition of personal service continues throughout the Annual Cup Match Classic. Whether welcoming first-time visitors or reconnecting with returning guests, Bermuda’s Taxi Ambassadors remain an important part of the island’s tourism experience, helping every journey begin and end with the warmth and hospitality for which Bermuda is known.

Supporting Drivers, Serving the Community

Preparing for an event the size of the Annual Cup Match Classic requires more than planning for today’s transportation needs; it also means ensuring sufficient capacity to meet increased demand throughout the holiday.

To support that effort, Journi will introduce a special seven-day driver trial for eligible licensed Public Service Vehicle operators who are not currently active on the platform. The initiative is designed to encourage more drivers to experience Journi while increasing the number of taxis available to serve residents and visitors during one of Bermuda’s busiest travel periods.

By expanding the number of active drivers during Cup Match week, Journi can help reduce passenger wait times, improve booking availability and strengthen transportation coverage across the island. At the same time, participating drivers have an opportunity to experience the platform, reconnect with existing customers and benefit from the increased travel demand that accompanies the holiday.

The initiative reflects BTOA’s ongoing commitment to supporting Bermuda’s taxi industry while investing in services that benefit the wider community. Stronger driver participation helps create a stronger transportation network, ensuring more people can enjoy Cup Match with the confidence that a licensed taxi is never far away.

Looking Beyond Cup Match

While the Annual Cup Match Classic marks the beginning of this new partnership, BTOA believes it also demonstrates how coordinated transportation can enhance events across Bermuda.

From sporting competitions and community celebrations to festivals, conferences and tourism experiences, well-planned transportation helps improve accessibility, reduce congestion and create a better overall experience for organisers, participants and patrons alike.

Journi has been developed with that vision in mind, providing event organisers with access to professional dispatch coordination, digital booking technology and Bermuda’s network of licensed Public Service Vehicle operators. By working closely with organisers before and during an event, transportation can become an integrated part of the visitor experience rather than simply a service people use to get there.

As Bermuda continues to grow its calendar of events, Journi welcomes opportunities to work with organisations that share a commitment to safe, reliable and professionally coordinated transportation. By bringing together experienced Taxi Ambassadors and modern dispatch technology, Journi is helping build a stronger, more connected transportation network that supports Bermuda’s residents, visitors and tourism industry throughout the year.
