Welcome to our blog series featuring Bermuda’s best attractions!
Join us on a journey through the East, Central, and West parishes of Bermuda with one of our experienced Taxi Ambassadors, as they introduce a couple of first-time visitors to the island’s rich history, stunning attractions, and architectural wonders.
Driver: Welcome to Bermuda! Since it’s your first time here, we’ll start with the East End. It’s rich in history and home to some of our most iconic spots.
Passenger 1: That sounds amazing! Where should we go first?
Driver: Let’s begin with Crystal Caves, a natural wonder. The caves were discovered over 100 years ago by two boys chasing a cricket ball. You’ll love the underground pools—so clear you can see the formations beneath the surface! It’s just a short ride from most hotels in Hamilton Parish, like Grotto Bay Beach Resort.
Passenger 2: What about historical sites?
Driver: You’ll want to visit Fort St. Catherine at the island’s northeastern tip. Built in the 1600s, it’s one of Bermuda’s largest forts, complete with cannons and exhibits about our island’s military past. The views of the ocean are breathtaking, and it’s just a short drive from St. George’s Town.
Speaking of St. George, that’s our next stop! This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the oldest continually inhabited English town in the New World. Walk its cobblestone streets, visit St. Peter’s Church—dating back to 1612—and explore King’s Square, where you might see reenactments of colonial life.
Passenger 1: Wow, we didn’t realize Bermuda had so much history!
Driver: There’s a lot more to uncover. Let’s head back to Hamilton Parish, where you can relax at your hotel after a full day.
Driver: Today, we’re heading to Bermuda’s central parishes. You’ll find a mix of history, culture, and stunning architecture here.
Passenger 2: Perfect! What’s the first stop?
Driver: Let’s visit Fort Hamilton. Built-in the 1800s to defend against a possible American attack, it’s now a peaceful spot with lush gardens and panoramic views of Hamilton Harbour. It’s near most hotels in the city, so it’s an easy visit if you’re staying in town.
Next, we’ll see the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Hamilton. This Gothic Revival masterpiece took nearly 30 years to complete and is a testament to Bermuda’s architectural beauty.
Passenger 1: That sounds lovely. Is there art in the area?
Driver: Absolutely. The City Hall and Arts Centre is nearby. It’s home to the Bermuda National Gallery, which showcases local and international art. Plus, the building itself is a piece of history—it’s been the heart of Hamilton since 1960.
Passenger 2: Central Bermuda has such a mix of attractions!
Driver: It’s a great blend of culture and convenience, especially for visitors staying at hotels like the Hamilton Princess or Edge Hill Manor
Driver: Today, we’re heading west to some of Bermuda’s most famous landmarks.
Passenger 1: We’ve been looking forward to this!
Driver: Our first stop is the Royal Naval Dockyard. Once a strategic military base, it’s now a lively hub with shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Bermuda National Museum. Cruise ship visitors often start here because it’s where the larger vessels dock.
Passenger 2: What about historical sites in the area?
Driver: You’ll love Fort Scaur. It’s perched high on a hill overlooking the Great Sound. Built during the American Civil War, it was designed to protect Bermuda from a potential attack by the Union forces. Today, it’s a peaceful spot with stunning views and a quiet, off-the-beaten-path feel.
Passenger 1: This all sounds amazing. What’s next?
Driver: Our last stop is the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, one of the oldest cast-iron lighthouses in the world. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the island—it’s well worth the effort! It’s also close to popular hotels like The Reefs and Pompano Beach Club.
