Update on Island Go Ride-Share App
Dear BTOA Members, We want to take a moment to address a critical issue that has recently come to our attention – the operation of the Island Go Bermuda ride-share app, which provides transport services similar to our taxi operations. This development is of significant concern to the BTOA Executive, and we want to assure you that we are actively seeking ways to address it.
Current Situation:
The Island Go app has begun providing ride-share services that directly compete with traditional taxi services, and they have even taken bold steps by advertising on local radio. Despite this clear challenge to our industry, we regret to inform you that the Transport Control Department (TCD), the Minister of Transport, and other related government entities have not yet taken action to regulate or halt this service.
BTOA Executive Response:
Please know that the BTOA Executive is fully aware of the impact this could have on our livelihood. We are exploring all possible options to hold the Transport Minister and the Ministry accountable for their inaction. Our goal is to ensure that this unauthorized service is halted, and we are committed to protecting the interests of all BTOA members.
Next Steps:
We will continue to press the relevant authorities for immediate intervention and will keep you informed of any developments. In the meantime, we ask for your support and vigilance as we navigate this issue together.
Thank you for your attention and continued dedication to the BTOA.
Best regards,
Bermuda Taxi Owners and Operators Association (BTOA)
