The Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association (BTOA) extends warm holiday wishes to all Bermudians and visitors enjoying the island during this festive season. As celebrations, family gatherings, and community events increase, so does the importance of making responsible travel choices that protect lives, reduce risk, and ensure everyone arrives home safely.
The holiday season is a time for joy, reflection, and connection. It is also a time when traffic volumes increase and the risks associated with impaired driving rise significantly. Planning how you will travel to and from events can make a meaningful difference to your safety and the safety of others on Bermuda’s roads.
Our goal is to ensure the public has clear, accurate information about safe, reliable, and government-regulated transportation options available throughout the holiday season.
Holiday Transportation in Bermuda
Choose Safety, Choose Regulated Travel
Safe and Regulated Ways to Travel in Bermuda
Bermuda offers several transportation options that are licensed, regulated, and overseen by Government, ensuring standards for safety, pricing, insurance, and service quality are upheld. Choosing regulated transport protects both passengers and drivers.
Public Transportation
Public Bus Service
The public bus system is an affordable and scenic way to travel around the island, particularly when time allows. Buses operate on regular and holiday schedules, which are published in advance. Passengers are encouraged to check schedules before travel, especially in the evenings and on public holidays.
Public Ferry Service
Ferries provide efficient access between key hubs and are a popular option for commuters and visitors alike. During the winter season, ferry services operate on a reduced schedule, so advance planning is advised.
Minibuses
Minibuses are ideal for group travel, holiday outings, and special events. These services are licensed and typically arranged through approved dispatch companies or private transport providers.
Taxis: Reliable, Accessible, and Available 24/7
Licensed Bermuda taxis remain one of the safest and most dependable ways to travel during the holidays. Taxis offer comfort, accessibility, and peace of mind, especially when travelling at night, after events, or when alcohol is involved.
Unlike scheduled services, taxis operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week (fleet availability may vary), providing flexible transport when you need it most. Taxis can be accessed from hotels, venues, transport hubs, residential areas, and event locations across the island.
The most reliable way to book a taxi is through a licensed dispatch company or approved dispatch app.
Licensed Taxi Dispatch Providers in Bermuda
The following dispatch services connect the public with certified, insured, and regulated taxi operators:
- Bermuda Taxi Association (BTA) offers Traditional phone-based dispatch and digital booking services with customer and driver apps.
- Island Taxi & Ride.bm offers Traditional phone dispatch and app-based booking options for added convenience.
- Hitch Ltd is a fully digital dispatch platform offering app-based bookings only.
BTOA Connect is a digital dispatch platform developed by the Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association to support its members and enhance customer access to regulated taxi services. The app connects passengers directly with licensed taxi operators using government-approved meter rates. Customers can choose to pay by cash or card:
- Cash fares are calculated using the approved taxi meter.
- Card payments are calculated in-app based on approved meter rates, with a transparent service fee.
BTOA Connect also offers a Priority Booking feature, designed for customers who need reliable, time-sensitive transport or a higher service standard. Priority bookings are assigned to vetted, certified taxi operators who have completed additional training in customer service, inclusivity, and cultural knowledge through recognised programmes such as Anchor BDA, CTA, or Blue Badge certification.
This platform strengthens trust, transparency, and service quality while keeping transport fully regulated and accountable.
Important Holiday Safety Message
If you plan to drink, do not drive.
The BTOA strongly discourages drinking and driving, riding, flying, or boating while impaired. We also urge the public to avoid using unlicensed “gypsy” operators, as these services are unregulated, uninsured, and unsafe, placing passengers at serious risk.
Private vehicles should only be used when the driver is a designated driver who has not consumed alcohol at all.
We proudly support the efforts of the Bermuda Road Safety Council and other community organisations working to reduce impaired driving and promote safer road habits during the holiday season and beyond.
If you need to travel:
- Use licensed taxis
- Use public transport
- Pre-book where possible
- Avoid walking late at night without reflective gear
- Never travel while intoxicated
Safe transport saves lives.
Season’s Greetings from the BTOA
The Bermuda Taxi Owners & Operators Association thanks the public for choosing regulated, professional transportation services. By making responsible travel choices, you help protect drivers, passengers, families, and our wider community.
We wish all Bermudians and visitors a safe, joyful, and memorable holiday season, and we look forward to serving you with professionalism, care, and island hospitality throughout the celebrations.
